Soo, the placement test this morning was kinda hard........It was a multiple choice test, and for each question the fifth choice was "I don't know". There were a 100 questions, and I shamefully put "I don't know" for like the last 20 questions.........
I had lunch for the first time in the cafeteria; it was cheap and good, but unfortunately I heard that when classes start it gets SUPER crowded and almost impossible to get food there, so I'll have to get lunch elsewhere. I'll worry about that later....=P
After that we had the opening ceremony, which just consisted of the president (this German dude) giving a speech in Japanese and English. They had also given all of the foreign exchange students huge packets with tons of papers and booklets, and spent half an hour trying to explain them, but it was just such an overload of information, I zoned out. They
wanted another 2 copies of the picture page of my passport; this is like
the 5th time I've had to do this since applying to Nanzan, such a
painnnnn. My friends after the opening ceremony:
Then, they divided all of us into groups of four, and paired us with two Japanese students who acted as guides and gave us a tour of campus. Afterwards we had a meet and greet (with refreshments yay--I had Japanese grapes, which are HUGE and
delicious. ) where I met a ton of Japanese students interested in foreigners like us. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to remember their faces, let alone their names. There was one Japanese girl who literally saw me, beckoned to me, asked my name, took a picture with me, and then left. My brownness must have stood out haha.
I was urged by many people to sign up for
this field trip to Nagoya Castle, and peer pressure won out. By this
time all my dorm-mates had headed back, so I was left alone, AND I
DIDN'T KNOW MY WAY BACK. I was lost on the streets of Nagoya, my
brownness attracting attention, and I had no cell phone, so no way to
contact anyone. I told myself that logically if I wandered around
enough, I would eventually find it, and luckily I was right.
Unfortunately those 15 minutes of wandering didn't help me learn the way
back, so I STILL don't know how to get to campus and back. Oh well.
After I finally got home, I had to decide which classes to take, since we're registering tomorrow (they only gave us one day to think and choose!) One of the classes I decided on was Japanese tea ceremony; I've always wanted to learn it, and I heard the class is a lot of fun, and all you do is drink tea and eat cakes, yummm.
For dinner, a few of us went to eat ramen at a small restaurant. I forgot to take a picture of the food (it was really prettily arranged :( but I took pictures of the place. Here's one of my dorm-mates, zoning out haha:
Here's all of us waiting for our food. The one in the front is our dorm sub-leader:
I still haven't gotten a hang of eating noodles with chopsticks; I mean I can pick them up perfectly fine, but I'm not able to slurp them without the noodles slapping my face. Also, apparently it's bad luck or something to bite the noodles off, which makes it even more difficult for me. I'm just glad we all sat in a line like that, and no one could watch me make a mess and a fool out of myself. Another thing, the middle-aged man sitting across the restaurant from me was reading a porn magazine while waiting for his ramen, how cool!!!!!!!!!! -_-
